On June 12, 2015, twenty Doorways volunteers will host Prom for 50 of its residents from 6-9 PM at its Soulard location. Doorways is an interfaith non-profit organization that provides housing and related supportive services to improve quality of life and health outcomes for people affected by HIV/AIDS. Many residents did not experience their own high school prom or may not have had a positive experience. The Doorways Prom with its theme “Light Up the Night” intends to celebrate the men and women who live at four of Doorways’ seven apartment buildings around the City of Saint Louis.

Local HIV/AIDS support program gets $1.1 million grant

DOORWAYS, a St. Louis-based organization that works to house HIV/AIDS patients, has received a federal grant through the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program (HOPWA).
The grant, for $1.1 million, is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The grant money will be used to provide housing assistance and support services to the HIV/AIDS-infected population.
HUD announced grants Wednesday supporting 25 programs in 16 states.

In February, the Missouri Department of Economic Development announced that DOORWAYS is among 31 nonprofits across the state to be approved for a total of $4,648,846 tax credits under the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP). DOORWAYS was awarded $25,000 in its first ever NAP allocation. NAP helps nonprofit organizations raise private-sector funds by providing partial state tax credits to businesses that make contributions to approved community improvement projects.
On Saturday, April 11 and Sunday April 12, 2015, DOORWAYS will be among the 27 nonprofits across Saint Louis to be selected as an Official Charity for the GO! For a Cause program from GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend. TEAM DOORWAYS is made up of 70 people who have agreed to run or walk either the 5k, half marathon, marathon relay, or marathon. Each team member agreed to fundraise a minimum donation level of $100 to donate to DOORWAYS’ efforts to end homelessness and HIV. Ten of the runners are clients of DOORWAYS; the rest are volunteers, supporters, staff, and Board members. One runner was so moved by the mission that she is coming from Dallas to join the team.
On Tuesday April 7, 2015 at 6 PM DOORWAYS will celebrate the supporters who make its work possible at its Annual Dinner. Supporters who helped to improve the health of those affected by HIV/AIDS through housing through their volunteer efforts will be honored with awards. The dinner is sponsored by St. Mary’s Health Center. Kate Becker, SSM St. Mary’s Health Center President, will welcome the dinner guests and Rev. Dr. Robert Scott, Central Baptist Church, will bless the event. The Michael Edlin Award, DOORWAYS highest honor, will be presented to Jay Joern, D.D.S. The Volunteer Award will go to Sarah Moore for her outstanding years of unpaid service to the organization and the Generosity Award has been designated for Andy Cohen because he increased awareness to HIV and Housing by selecting Doorways to serve as the recipient of his winnings on a national television game show.

This Saturday, DOORWAYS is adding some sizzle to its annual RED gala: the Golden Ticket! Typically – during the live auction – fabulous, once-in-a-lifetime prizes go to the highest bidder, fetching donations of as much as $10,000 per item. This year, DOORWAYS’ supporters can participate in the live auction EVEN IF THEY CANNOT ATTEND the gala, thanks to the Golden Ticket. The Golden Ticket is a raffle. Only one hundred raffle tickets will be sold. Each ticket is $100 each. The winning ticket will be drawn Saturday night at RED and the winner will be able to select one of the live auction items as the prize.

In December, Doorways hired a new Administrator for Cooper House, its supportive housing facility in the Central West End. Tracy M. Unger, LNHA has more than fifteen years of successful experience in the administration, direction and operation of healthcare facilities like Cooper House. Because of her experience managing a 2.8 million dollar turnaround of a different healthcare facility, Unger demonstrates the necessary skill set to build on the successes of one of Doorways’ most critical programs.

DOORWAYS Interfaith AIDS Housing and Services announces its RED H.O.T. event for Saturday, February 7, 2015 hosted by co-chairs Al and Glenda Wiman at the Four Seasons St. Louis from 7:00 PM – midnight. This event features, dinner, dancing, auction, and raffle. It is the 14th annual gala for the 26-year-old non-profit that provides housing and related supportive services to improve the quality of life and health outcomes for people affected by HIV/AIDS. DOORWAYS has seven housing complexes located throughout the City of St. Louis, a residential care facility and numerous assistance programs to offer hope and healing for those affected by HIV/AIDS. Through direct service delivery and the efforts of identified program partners, DOORWAYS’ programs and services span the 15-county St. Louis metropolitan area, 62 under-served counties in outstate Missouri and another 55 under-served counties in outstate Illinois. As one of the most comprehensive AIDS housing programs in the nation, DOORWAYS offers a range of living options designed to meet the diverse needs of the HIV-affected population. The organization assists monthly over 600 adults and 300 children.
In December, DOORWAYS was awarded $20,000 by The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation based in Beverly Hills. This is the first grant from the foundation in the Saint Louis region, making DOORWAYS the only local organization to receive recognition from this world-renowned foundation. Support for the request came from DOORWAYS’ partners in the prevention of the spread of HIV: Food Outreach, St. Louis Efforts for AIDS, St. Clair Department of Health, and the City of Saint Louis Department of Health. The funds will be used for DOORWAYS’ Own Home Program which is the primary provider of housing services to people living with HIV infection throughout the St. Louis Metropolitan region. Own Home helps clients locate and secure safe, affordable housing, and assists clients who face eviction from their homes or loss of utility services because of financial crises related to their illness.
